Thread: Anyone else hate the wow torrent system?

Anyone else hate the wow torrent system?

I found a program that extracts the torrent info out of the executable so you don't have to use that crappy bit torrent client with no throttle controls.

I have hosted both the program (toss it into your wow folder and run it after the game downloads the update information to create a torrent file you can open with your favorite bit torrent client) and the torrent for the patches needed from TBC box version to live.

Blizzard's torrent app works awesome for me.

Just gotta know what needs to be done in the firewall I guess. ;)
I did it for the lulz.

The only way I have successfully made this thing work is to turn off my router firewall, turn off my PC firewall, turn off my antivirus software and disable the microsoft security center. I feel naked as a newborn babe ever time they push an update.

And thats with assigning ports to the Bliz software....

And it's slow. Download accelerrator plus is way faster. Last patch I uploaded four times as much content as I downloaded. Guess it was my turn to be a host...

I wouldn't have a problem with the built in system if it had an option to throttle bandwidth. My cable modem takes a crap as soon as that upload cap gets hit, and drops everything down to 30k or less. Throttle the upload cap at even 5k under the max upload, and everything is golden.

Plus, Blizzard's tracker went down in the middle of my downloads, so that was irritating as well.

I bet most people's issues stem from the fact they have an asynchronous line. And yes, it would be nice of Blizzard to put in a feature to work around that. Although I'm sure 99% of all people would set it to 0, thus defeating the purpose of torrenting it.

    www.filefront.com

... best source for patches outside of hls.org I've found. It's free, no waiting, and pretty nice bandwidth.
