The non-so rare spawn, Lag, was encountered in Molten Core last night. And for part of the night it was selective about who it chose as it's victims. We had raiders with perfectly green latency and no problems at all. Other, like myself and Yexia, we red and experienced 5 second "instant" cast spells. Looting was almost unbearable. It would take a good 10-15 seconds for the loot window to open once I took a knee on a mob.
We also had a new tag-team of healing coordinators in the form of Snar and Yexia. In addition, nearly a third of the healing corps was new to MC and we could have had a very crappy night indeed. From my perspective, Yex and Snar did a great job. Some people got put into roles they weren't used to. That was largely because they were the best option available for the job with the large number of new people.
Overall, the raid started out at a good pace. The new people seemed to keep up as far as I could tell. As we were setting up for Luci the lag seemed to come down on us with a vengence. Normally two mages are sufficient for decurse duty but I needed to call in a third. The fight went wonky from the get-go. Rynd was MTing and either got feared or MC right away. It was way too long before Luci was dragged out of the body of the raid. In the mean time he managed to lay down some Impending Doom and curses that sapped too much early mana from our healers/dispellers/decursers. I ended up sheeping 3-4 people that got mind controlled. It's rare for me to have to sheep one on a normal fight. Our first attempt was a wipe. We picked ourselve up, dusted of the dirt, and hit him again. This time was much better and Luci coughed up some purples for us.
Nothing really important to report about the Mags fight. We engaged, he died.
We fought our way back through the imps and headed to Gehennas. I normally have ample opportunity to DPS in-between curses on this fight. The lag and the fact I was #1 decurser on Rynd meant I threw a grand total of PoM+Pyro the entire time. We ened up losing Rynd with Gehennas at about 5%. At that point everyone pretty much switched to DPS and just burned him down.
Gehennas had the grace to drop the Sabatons of Might (SoM). This was a very nice development. Several weeks ago there was some loot confusion on a previous SoM drop. Another warrior that already had them and was higher up on the list than Rehab did an SKWANT by accident and ended up actually getting the boots. Due to our experience with Blizzard actually resolving loot issues we decided to suicide Rehab with the expectation he'd get the boots from that night. Late last week Blizzard finally responded -- request DENIED. When the boots dropped last night the warriors agreed to let Rehab have them. Because he'd already been suicided for them once, he was not suicided again. Problem solved.
I'm a little curious why the Garr setup is still taking us so long. With the raid targetting icons it should be a simple as "Myrc, yellow star. Unka, purple diamond. Jabber, green clover." and so on. We did have an almost "Oh, shit" moment. Instead of dragging his firesworn off to the side, Ibliss moved his through the center of the raid and in the direction of the MT's healers. There was a hasty DPS OFF call and surprisingly everyone stopped until Ibliss had his mob safely away from the raid. After we dropped Garr and still had firesword to kill we got a little goofy and actually tried to blow-up people.
Running short on time we, only pulled two lava packs then set up for Geddon. The Geddon fight was going text book. Sol was tanking through the pulses, DPS stayed on, and Geddon was going down the fastest I've seen. At about 50% Magalicious was the bomb and didn't move. At first everyone assumed that the new guy wasn't paying attention and calls went out to get the heck away from him. I ran to away and realized I was the only one moving. Uh, oh. Yep. It wasn't a case of Magalicious not paying attention -- it was a case of lag hitting the entire raid. When we finally unfroze, half the raid was dead. Sucked but we've beaten Geddon after a half-wipe before. We still had Sol, healers, and DPS up. I was about 25% health so I hit a health pot and started to move back into position when lagspike #2 hit. This time it did us in. Maybe a couple of people were alive when it passed but it broke our back for that attempt. At that point it was well after ten. Realizing we'd have to reclear for Shazzrah on Sunday anyway, there wasn't much point in staying up even later so we called the raid.
From a results standpoint, the raid was disappointing in that we only got 4 bosses. The upside is that almost none of the problems were related to people's performance. Even with new healing coordinators and a ton of rookies in the raid, almost everything we had control over went fairly well. Room for improvement, definitely, but considering the rookie factor, well done.
