really good vid with fight also u can check out tank spot for more info too
I got this link from fayadin in irc. I like the diagrams and the explanations. This is one of those fights where I think we need to do some thorough research and also expand on our tactics.
we'll have to start getting specific about how to mitigate defiles and how to to handle the val'kyr.

a note about the guide is for heroic version of the fight but i think we can take a little out of it for our noraml 25 man
we gotta get on this. I touched on the point that we (all of us who raid) need to watch these vids and make sure we're ready to confront the Lich King. Every wipe costs us about 15 minutes. Watching the LK videos and doing a little research shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
that is 1 wipe.
we need to get some quality time with mister LK if we are going to have a snowballs chance in hell of beating him. One way to make sure our time spent with him is "quality"? do some homework!

I am curious if we are going to extend the timer this week to try to pwn Arthas? If you want my vote I heartily say yes! I know that no one really relishes the thought of two possible nights of wipes on LK, but the only way we are going to down him is some real quality time. I think we have come a long ways on him just in the time we've spent on him. Think back to the first 10 or 12 attempts, we staggered into the 3rd phase of the fight with most of the raid dead, if we even got that far. Now we have had attempts where we have gotten to the defile with the entire raid up but we just plain don't have alot of experience with the defile. I doubt you are looking for a vote but if you are I am all for extending the timer this week and putting in some quality time on LK. We are Kingslayers and deserve to be titled thusly!

Yep.... I agree with Zen. Badges are nice... heroic drops are nicer... not to mention we all want the satisfaction of moving past this obstacle. I'd give up some badge farming any day for some good old fashioned knuckle busting with "the man" himself.
Who else is of this same mind?
We're trying to balance out the knuckle busting and the farming because we have some turn over in our lineup. We need some very quick fingers in terms of dps on the LK to be able to pop val'kyr, avoid defile and keep the LK's health bar going down all at the same time.
My requirement for extending a LK timer has been that we have a lineup that is flush with raider ranked toons. I haven't seen that the past month so that has been the reason we haven't extended a timer yet.
The 15% buff did hit though, and that can help us carry some undergeared toons on the LK fight.... more feedback requested. thanks Zen and SMP.
I'm certainly game. I'd give up some badge time for more experience with Arthas.
I'm wondering if we can coordinate our stuns/slows a bit better when it comes to the valkyre phase - especially ae effects. We could proactively organize and order the sequence of who does what, and then just call off names as an effect expires. The person named would then fire off his cooldown, and hopefully we could keep the valkyre relatively motionless.

I know I'm not raider rank, but my two cents is to extend the timer this week, and kick lich kings butt.

11 bosses in one evening of hard raiding (tuesday) is not impossible if everyone brings their A game. This allows for some more tokens to drop so folks can upgrade armor. What this also does is gives us the chance on sunday to knock out the weekly raid as a warm up and spend sunday night learning and practicing the arthas fight. I know folks have been complaining that the pally priest warlock tokens arent dropping, so i dont see how skipping 8 token drops is a good thing.

If we tried to do 11 bosses on one night, and then just work on LK the second night, we'd need to have a really strong line-up of raiders for both nights. Otherwise, we either wouldn't be able to clear all 11 other bosses, or we just wouldn't have a group strong enough to actually down the Lich King. Would worrying about having two nights of strong sign-ups have been an issue around 2 months ago? No. We consistently had a fairly large bench for all 3 nights of raiding. It IS an issue now, though. Sport leagues and other summer responsibilities have started up, and we are starting to see it in our raid sign-ups. I really believe we are going to need to rely on raid extensions to get a good look at LK. We have the gear to beat the Lich King now - guilds were able to down him shortly after he was first accessible. At this point, all that is holding us back is a lack of experience with the fight. I would definitely vote for extending the timer to get some real practice in on him.
One thing to note, though, is that if we extend a raid timer that has ONLY the Lich King left, we could extend the timer and wipe on him all night, but not get saved to the instance. Perhaps if our Tuesday line-up is strong, but sign-ups for Sunday are low, we could work on Lich King Tuesday night, and then start a fresh timer on Sunday to get more people some tokens/gear/badges.

I'm always down for some good badge farming, but I think i'd like to spend some quality pwn time with the Lich King so we can get more practice on him, and 2 nights worth will definitely teach us a few tricks and help us lead to the eventual downfall of him. So I vote for 2 nights worth of the LK.
I second the motion of extending the timer with the clauses made by Eklef

My concern is verifying this is 100% true - in Ulduar, when we extended the timer to yogg, we pretty much had a 1 minute countdown before it re-saved us to the instance (without engaging yogg) - at which point we couldn't un-save ourselves. Has something changed in regards to this?

Totally on-board with this.

We extended a 10-man timer once and brought in Pony to replace a DPS spot. We wiped on LK all night and Pony didn't get saved. I'm guessing this is still how it works, but verifying it before we decide to go this route can't hurt.

If I make the invite list for tomorrow I am down for either decision. Would love to see you guys and gals get the Lich King down.

This. Though I would put forth that if our line-up on Sunday is as strong if not stronger that we look to pwn the Lich King. I understand that we haven't spent alot of time on LK due to shifting line-ups atm, but I personally know that I'm almost tap tap tapping my foot knowing that we are working on farm content when the last truly unconquered boss for ALOT of guilds in this game is within our grasp. I mean alot of us have alts at this point that either have or could be blowing through the 25man content right now and getting to almost the exact same point we are getting to with our mains. I'm not complaining I just don't want us to stall out when the top of the mountain is right there in sight.

Do you know if the rest of you got saved? That's more what I'm curious about

Wow - I checked that Maldy thing that Tilo has in his sig - must be running a sale on shamans - Zen was going for $584.00.

I was already saved to the instance, so I didn't really notice anything. My rogue is saved to Drai's timer from last week, we can test it out on that toon after maintenance.

It is possible that we ran into a bug with our 10 man timer. However, we have successfully extended for a Wednesday night Lich King, and then were able to start a fresh timer on Saturday night. I believe it probably gave Mylilpwny a prompt that he would be saved (maybe he can confirm this?), but since we didn't actually kill anything (or loose attempts, since they weren't knocking them off anymore for normal mode at that point) he was not actually saved to the raid I.D.. I think it's possible that getting saved to a Yogg timer might have something to do with the fact that the keepers were all talked to. I'm not entirely sure if getting saved or not is the "working as intended" outcome of raid extension.
I never got a prompt to be saved to the 10 man instance when I came in for the LK fight.

I think it also counts Achievements, i used it with Girado (the guy from Bane) and it maldy gives him a price of $2k.
I liked maldy 'cause is a gearscore with money, more e-peen to show :P
seeing a lot of momentum here to grind the LK and his little defiles into dust.

Hmmm.... maldy. 999 more toons with 264 gear, and I can retire a millionaire.

Wow, that maldy thing must put a large emphasis on achievement points (and possibly HKs?). Eklef in pvp gear = $1,786, but Ishone in ICC 25 gear = $1,322. O_o
now we know what Talgrar has been working on the past month.
