Here is a recycled old post that describes the nature of the World of Warcraft Guild- Hordeland Security.

We have a long history and the guild has only had 1 GM since HLS and WOW launched in November 2004, Sol aka Sollus.

As you probably already know, our recruitment strategy is very conservative. We don't actively recruit on the forums or stand around in Orgrimmar spamming /ginvite. All of our recruiting has been done via networking irl and in-game.

We actually don't even tag a new recruit until 4-5 HLS members have had a chance to group with them and "vouch" for the recruit. This is a bit unconventional and may turn people off since so many guilds are willing to tag someone up for a tryout period. However, it's worked well for us.

Here is a message I wrote up to welcome someone new to the guild recently. Gives a history of how HLS came to be, and also highlights some of our values.

The core founders of HLS were guys from another gaming clan called PCI.
(population control incorporated). mostly from the Minneapolis area, but not entirely. PCI was a competitive FPS clan that spent a lot of time in games like quake 2, quake 3, soldier of fortune 2, call of duty, joint ops etc. etc. over the course of the years (Starting in 1997) we picked up like minded gamers and along came WoW. a new vision was born for WoW and since not everyone in PCI was crazy about WoW, we decided to start a new guild with a new name and a new spam list. Wump came up with the name "hordeland security" we were all playing on the first night that WoW was out. Blackhand was a central PVE server with a low population after launch, so we fired it up... little did we know that it would become the most popular PVE server in North America.

HLS has expanded to include a lot of great people, and we're committed to these values:
1) being a class-act
2) having fun
3) recruiting only like-minded people
4) killing all paladins and floppy eared alliance (Ror and Soy clause 1.3.5.2: gnomes may be spared if they refrain from spitting on us)

Where are we going with it?
We are committed to running raids to progress through content but doing so on a reasonable schedule that accommodates a game/life balance. We are proud of the level of content we can conquer on a relatively limited time budget per week.

new section on raid/instance scheduling
Regarding raid scheduling. we currently have a standing appointment to raid instances on Thursday and Sunday nights @ 7:45 CST and raid end at 10:15 CST. During periods of high motivation and participation we sometimes add a 3rd night on Tuesdays.

The other nights of the week are open for scheduling. We have a WRM calendar on this site for scheduling. The GM and Officers are responsible for facilitating 25 man content and rosters. I leave it up to the membership to take responsibility for setting up 5 and 10 man events. Some raids/instance groups are scheduled 5 minutes before they start, but most are setup during the day while we're all at work and planning out what we want to do that night. If anyone is feeling left out of raids (common issue in guilds), I encourage people to set up an instance run and schedule things further out in advance. 3-5 days is a sweet spot. If at first your event doesn't get enough people, try again.

Rules?
we don't really have any rules in the guild. I feel like if we recruit cool people, you don't need to have rules. The closest thing to rules we have is our loot guidelines (post should be in the HLS forum under raids). We have posted guidelines and expectations clearly defined for folks that want to raid 25 man content and help trail blaze new content for HLS.

I'm not your boss, I'll try and provide leadership and organization, but that is it.

GL and HF
