I was doing some fraps tests.... when you encode the vids and compress them, how do you do that? I tried using autoGK and using virtualdub. tried divx and Xvid. i got errors. I think they are related to trying to compress a 1680x1050 .avi? but not sure....

Easy. Buy fraps. Windoz movie maker. I then save to my computer and make the app choose the best quality.
Also have fraps save the video at 1/2 the size.

you open the video in windows moviemaker and then choose compression and can you also specify what resolution you want for the video?
thanks, I will try using MS movie maker tonight. :)
i struggled mightily trying to use autoGK and virtualDub... honestly i think they are overkill for what I wanted to do. They are made for like ripping and compressing DVD's and people's anime collections.

low framerates and stuttering due to caching are your enemies. they cost lives!

LOL the story might not be that unusual to our IT heavy membership.
1. Buy new Dell hardware for your employer. A lot of new Dell hardware.
2. Sweet talk kind account rep into throwing in 17" flat panel upgrades for yourself and your boss.
3. Give boss his monitor.
4. Misfile paperwork on yours.
4. Acquire free stuff.
I know, I know. I'm a dirty thief. :suspiciou Just don't know how I live with myself.... oh and this was when 17s were hotness. Now I just need to wrangle some big LCDs...
Dell rox... as does CDW. So much swag and freebies!!!!

Moving to the new Penryn based Quad whenever Intel releases the desktop version. Not so much to upgrade for performance, but to turn my current rig into a dedicated media center PC hooked into the main TV. Until then, running this:
Dual Core e6600
MSI P35 Platinum
2 GB Corsair memory
eVGA 8800 GTX
Assorted junk (Raptor 150 GB Hard Drive, X-Fi soundblaster, Blue-Ray/HD-DVD combo drive, Logitech G7 wireless mouse, Microsoft natural keyboard)
30" Widescreen Dell for main (2560x1600), 20" Widescreen dell for 2nd, rotated 90 degrees, -almost- lines up perfectly (1050x1680).

It only holds 8GB! I need the new one so I can install 16.
I was thinking of just adding more side monitors until I'm surrounded.

I wasn't real thrilled with my machine's performance when I was running multiple apps. So after a little research I found an "optimizer" program on the AMD website that optimizes your OS for AMD dual cores. You can find it on the AMD webpage. It made quite a difference for me.

I tried to grab the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer, and the installer faulted out. :( Wonder if that app would really help...
EDIT: Run as Administrator is your friend... now to check improvements.

I'd quit using FRAPS cuz...12-15fps in pvp is bad mmkay. I tried it again last night and it was running smoothly. I've also noticed that when I'm running WoW, ITunes, FRAPS and some system monitors it's all running smooth as silk. It appears that the two cores seem to be playing nice and sharing much more than they did before. Of course, I wasn't graphing it but I've yet to see one core peg out whilst the other is having a sammich.
