Question. Would anyone like to post what they feel are the minimum addons that we will expect our raiders to have installed, and when we hav concensus, could we get each of them added to the resources tab as a hot-link?
Not things like "Jimmy's whizbang lootmaster" or anything like that. Just the basic expectations, like CTRa, CT2, Threatmeters, Deadly Boss Mods, Raidmaster and so on? The links that have been put up in individual posts have become buried and are difficult to excavate.
Our list has grown a little bit since pre BC and it would be nice to have an easy place to go to for them if someone needs a refresh at a raid.

Looks like e Casting bar and deadly boss mods are the two missing from the resource tab.
Also. Raidmanager? It sounds like we start raiding 25 man in another week or so (Gruul's Lair).

The three I posted are the current 'bare minimum' you should have.
Natur EnemyCastBar is personal preference.

For example, Chronometer in my Ace2 package does a lot of the same things as that, so I don't use it.
Warcaster will be sure everyone is updated and notified about RaidManager when we need to use it for point-based-loot raids.

Indeed.

So who's to say what's required and what's not? Some of you guys use add-ons that I really don't like. Myrc SWORE that fast-cast was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I tried it and hated it - it screwed up my casting sequences because it just wasn't compatible with the way I play the game. Are you guys leaning towards cookie-cutter classes and play styles? The more you start tossing out requirements like add-ons, the more you start looking like Big Brother.
I agree that there are a few add-ons that are necessary. CTRA, Boss Mods, Raid manager, and maybe one or two more. Forcing people to use stuff like enemy cast bars, Chronometer, etc to me is forcing a personal preference on other players. It may make the game better for you, but it quite possibly won't for me. This guild used to pride itself on letting people make individual choices as to how to play their characters, and I want us to be very careful any time we consider a path that leads away from this.

That would be why I asked if anyone would like to post what they felt were the minimum required addons :)
I just want to make sure that what is needed to communicate with the raid is installed and current. Reason I asked what might be "required" is that a hotlink on the resource bar would be really helpful.

NECB and BossMods are really valuable for learning new encounters, specifically bosses, and especially bosses that have scripted events like those in a lot of the BC zones.
I think it's worth the trouble to get them if you're interested in breaking new encounters, just like RaidAssist was when we were learning MC.
I also don't think it's too much to ask that people have access to the information they can provide at least until we get the encounters on farm mode.
The Curator, for one recent example, will take something like 15-18,000 damage from a Curse of Doom if it's timed to hit during his Evocation phase. BossMods can help time that spell so it hits early in the Evocation so you can use another curse for the rest of the phase.

It is, but the hotlinks are not, and our forums have gotten rather, well, obese? OK... full then.
The search engine works very nicely, but then you get referred off-page, and have to figure out if you're downloading the latest or an older version blahblahblah... You know.
i know i say those are required on every raid posted to the calendar (*cough*) but its not a hard requirement.
the worse case? I may razz someone on vent if they don't have the mod and it causes us to wipe because they didn't have all the tools installed to help learn an encounter.
deadlybossmods for example has a lot of tools that help a guild learn encounters.
Enemycastbars does a lot of stuff, like show timers on things. I can see when banish is going to wear off now, you can see what the cooldown is on other people's abilities too.
threatmeters is a nice tool to figure out how to maximise dps without pulling aggro.
ct_Raidassist is a nice tool for the raid leader to get info about resists people have or durability, and also helps the healers gain info because all the clients talk to each other.
to some degree, this isn't a problem if people don't have the mods. Wutai has a real memory bottleneck on his PC and doesn't run some of the bigger mods (he does run ktm). It hasn't inhibited our success though... if it did, I'd have to talk to that player one on one chat about addon requirements and see if there is an issue or not. Most of the time, not an issue.
comparing these mods to fastcast is kind of like comparing apples to oranges. These mods need to talk to each other in some cases for everything to work. I would guess enemy cast bars and deadly boss mods would be the exception, and are probably the most optional. However, they are very important mods because they give you so much information. On maiden, I can see a bar with a timer on it that shows me time until the next repentance. On Moroes, I get text messages in th emiddle of my screen telling me who got garroted or that Moroes is about to vanish.
very powerful.
take the "requirement" with a grain of salt though.

The Curator event timer is nice too. It shows how long until the repops start. Kinda sucks that it resets at death but a well-used Feign Death button takes care of that.

I'm not disagreeing with any of you. I'm just saying be careful about making requirements that influence how people play the game.
Civil liberties FTW!
Linking the necessary add-ons on the resources tab would certainly go a long ways to making it easier to stay current. Looking for the current version of multiple add-ons is truly a drag.

Bumping and asking if maybe we should go back to actually placing the disclaimer/mod requirement text back in the raid posts. I know it doesn't apply to 99% of people, or even most raids, but if it can help prevent some confusion, then maybe it's not a bad thing.

IMO vent needs to be a hard requirement. Raiding without coms is FTL

Have people moved off of CTRA and Deadly Boss mods?
I think some are using Big Wigs instead of DBM but I'm not certain.
Sol's Lurker screenshot sure looks like something other than CTRA.

"Required Addons for HLS Raiding" -Updated 1/18/08
Hi fellow HLS friends,
I have spent the last couple of days getting all my WoW interface addons installed and configured. I want to make sure that we are all clear on what each person should have installed; I am just verifying that what was in past posts is still current. Here is the bare minimum list I am working from that should be installed:
NaturEnemyCastBar (NECB 8.7.4) Note:Will not work after patch 2.4
Deadly Boss Mob
KLHThreatMeter
CT_ RAIDAssist
Omen
VoidReaverAlarm
Ventrilo 3.0.0
RAIDManager (thanks to Warcaster!)
For each class there are other "Highly Recommended" addons that most everyone uses:
Decursive 2.0
HealBot
YATA (Yet Another Totem Addon)
ArkInventory
Auctioneer
Bartendar3
Cartographer
Clique
Recount
FuBar or TitanPanel (I use FuBar because I like ACE2 addons!)
Scrolling Combat Text (SCT) or Mik's Scrolling Combat Text
We all need to make sure we have what is mandatory and are sharing with each other in Class forums what addons make WoW rock for you! Feel free to update this list and provide accurate input so that we are all "Singing outta the same hymn book" with the mandatory addons and improving game play with the optional addons and plugins.
Happy gaming from the Skydog

I think you could probably remove KTM threat meters as it is a redundancy with Omen, and Omen keeps better track of your threat per mob.

I agree with Kigora that OMEN has replaced KLHThreatmeter and also that Natur ECB 8.7.0 and the four NECB Modules no longer are working (WoW disabled them on my addon list!

i am using xperl now, its more complicated but it has some amazing stuff in it if you have time to noodle with it and remove all the extraneous fluff... thankfully the menus are easy to navigate and its easy to move stuff around and disable things with checkboxes.
one of the coolest things is Castingmonitor (beta) it allows you to monitor what spells everyone is casting and who they have targeted.

XPerl rocks! I have mine set to show who's casting what, at who, and who their targets target is... it gets a bit cluttered in raids, but once you're used to it you can see the "big picture". Seeing everything like that as a DPS caster may be overkill, but I like it :)
