I don't know if anyone mentioned this to WC yet, but Raid Manager seems to be the cause of the looting disconnects in Outland instances. Sabathius mentioned that to me, and since shutting down RM I've only had one disco in an instance (compared with multiple per run before). Might want to look at it before Sunday...

It has been mentioned. I've looked at the code and there's nothing I can point to as the cause. Unfortunately, when the looting occurs the specific data RM is collecting is lost with the disconnect.

It could be related to the change Blizzard made to the format of in-game item IDs. That would be my first guess since it doesn't happen on all loot -- just some. It's also fits the facts that it's usually the person receiving the loot and the group leader. Both of those people attempt to parse and report the loot data. But I'm back to the original problem that since the loot data is lost on the disco, I don't know what's different about it.

On a related note, like nearly everyone else in HLS I've been concentrating on leveling my character. Because Blizzard changed the format of the saved variables files, the import into the admin application broke when the mini-patch prior to BC was released. As a result, our last MC raid still isn't imported and processed. My plan was to get to 70 and then work on it while we were waiting for enough other people to get to 70 to raid the new instances. The timing of this raid is killing me.

In the interest of saving WC, I will refrain from Raiding until level 70... ;)

lets not use raid points then.

Changed the event to a non-points event.

This event is for fun, and loot is pretty far down the list of priorities for running this raid.

We'll just use /rand and try to spread the upgrades around that we may come across.

Are you sure its RM? and not a combo of RM and another out of date mod?

I was for a few days having all sorts of disconnect pet-bar and party frame issues.

I updated all of my mods to their newest version (only RM and ThreatMeter didnt have updates at the time) and most of my problems stopped.

Every once in a while I will get "loot discoed" but it has only happened twice int he last 2 weeks.

I've been running with RM since TBC as well, no loot discos for me at all.

Well my rule of thumb is: Don't run addons you don't need to use.

I do per-character addon management at the Addon Management GUI you access from the Character Selection Screen.

I don't ever use the ALL page - except to Disable All -- then goto per-character pages.

Every character has a slightly different set of active addons, and only loads the addons I need for that specific character.

Raiding-specific Addons like Raid Manager, KTM, CT_RaidAssist: I keep them up to date, but they are disabled.

Why load them if I'm not raiding? :smirk:

I paid good money for that memory, I'm gonna use it!

Warcaster, just wanted to jump in here to say that I haven't had these issues and have been running RM since the start of it being created.

I would like to know more about the issue to be honest.

Is this happening in a party, or is it only while in a raid?

Have the people that are having this issue tried fully troubleshooting this by disabling all other mods besides RM and then enabling their other mods one by one to see if there is a connection? [run on sentence ftw yo!]

It's been happening in instance runs only as far as I know. We haven't done any raids since BC release. What happens is that sometimes when looting, the recipient of the item (whether they won the roll or looted a chest) and the party leader both disco. I personally haven't done any troubleshooting, since disabling RM did a pretty good job of eliminating the issue. That, and since it's an intermittent thing that only seems to pop up during instance runs, the diagnostic you are suggesting would be an absolute PITA to go through so I'm certainly not going to do it! :)

Is the loot set to master loot on these runs? [looking to see if I can reproduce this]

Edit: It looks, from your post, that it is set to group loot, but I am just wanting to make sure.

Always Group Loot, as far as I know.

Group loot and only during instance runs.

I've only had it happen a couple of times and it was both with RM enabled and without it enabled.

I was wondering if it might not be related to the beta version of Auctioneer that I'm running.

when me and NG are grouping together and one of us gets loot, we sometimes both sometimes just 1 of us disco. Its streaky. it can happen 5 times in 1 run or 0 times.

I'm running ctmod, titan and a few other things. no auctioneer/lootlink/gatherer. No loot mods really besides RM.

When I did 3 instances 1 night over at Kasimir's, I only disco'd once. its just kind of streaky.

I'm inclined to think its some sort of addon interaction bug, and not necessarily RM's fault either.

Sounds plausible, though it has happened a lot less post-RM for me so that sure seems to be part of the interaction that's going on.

I used to keep all my mods loaded all the time. Then I noticed my performance was getting a little slow and I wondered what was up, I realize I was using 280MB of RAM loading up all the mods, and most of them I wasn't even using. Tanking mod for my priest? Healing assist mod on a Mage? Not all that useful, I now try to keep only 4 at most loaded all the time. Things like Gatherer, Atlas, etc mostly.

WC, I have yet to have any issues and I am still running RM... Gawd, I really don't want to think of all the runs I get to delete out of the raid list :(...

I have yet to see any disco's while in instances. Currently I am running Titan, Lootlink, Gather, Atlas Enhanced, alphamap, CT_Core (mailmod, boss, RA, unitframes), Quickloot. a couple of others but nothing big.

As always if you need any assistance with troubleshooting this just let Blood or my self know what you need.

I did find a problem.

There's a maximum length for messages you can send between players. As you may have noticed, some of the new loot items have really freaking long names. Those names are pushing the length of the Raid Manager loot messages over the maximum and causing at least some of the disconnects.

I've shortened the strings RM transmits and that seems to have solved the problem temporarily. At least until the "Hammer of Total Uberosity With A Hellaciously Long Name" drops and breaks it again.

I'll be posting a 1.300 version of Raid Manager in the next couple of days. This version will be incompatible with any pre-1.3 versions due to the changes in the comm layer.

Longer term I'm going to try to find a way of serializing the messages so I can send any length message I need to. I'll need to populate the zone/boss data for the new instances first, though.

I don't know that this is the only cause of disconnects, though. I've had a couple of loot discos while RM was disabled.
