Well Im okay with the socket weapons.... but the new races and an apparent rumored ne class -- "spellbreaker" might be an issue. I dont want to have to roll a new toon because my Undead lock is now just way to overpowered by th BE or the Panda - people. I like the keeping of the Outworld totally seperate from the current land.... but what now becomes of all the MC stuff weve been trying to get? will a level 67 green item be better? WTF... what happenes what a group of 40 Level 70s goes into MC? I dunno ive seen too many expansions ruin games....I hope the trend doesn't contimue......

I'm looking forward to it, will buy it (twice) and I'm sure I will enjoy it.

Expansions do make games different, different is risky, but different is good too. without changes the game gets boring and we all quit eventually.
i do have confidence that this won't be another Trials of Atlantis fiasco (See daoc)

Ive heard rumors of 100 man Instances that will take both Horde and Alliance Forces to beat in "outland" perhaps I will soon be able to talk trash to alliance fools.. and theyll understand it!!!

I wish they had more in-depth detail on their prerelease site. Many of the "leaked" notes pointed to this expansion being almost totally raid centric, with planned 50 and 100 person raids. Granted, none of the leaked notes seem to be totally true - but I'm hoping for something with plenty of solo, 5-man and 10-man content. I didn't get completely disenchanted with EQ until it became a totally raid-based experience, and it was the expansion packs which caused that shift. Sure, griding was bad... but it was the insane 60+ person raids that put an end to it for me.
Please god, don't let The Burning Crusade be for WoW what Scars of Velious was for EQ.

Scars of Velious was the best EQ expansion ever :)
If you enjoyed raiding and trying to organize large groups to compete with outher large groups for static spawns.
I bought the expansion but never actually visited the continent. "Hey, we've got 36 people on, let's all go see if A_Tubesteak_001 is up!!!" Nah, thanks...
anyone got a link to that site that had shots and tons of detail about the expansion a week ago? that site seemed to predict a lot of what was released today... but went into tons more detail.

There were two "leaked" expansion previews, one from an italian magazine which has since been proven about 100% accurate, and the other, which was posted on a fansite and speaks to the 100 man allied raids, northrend, and a cap of 75 -> has been proven to be crap thus far.
Link to the magazine translation here:
http://forums.worldofwar.net/showthread.php?t=354828&page=1&pp=20
also a German article that speaks to the same things was posted yesterday.
If these articles are correct, there are no new classes in this expansion, and hero classes, while scheduled to ship with the expansion, are still in concept development as of this time.
Pardo, the lead game designer, made a comment in the German interview that said "player housing will probably beat Heroes into the game"
I don't consider the opportunity to make another alt that does everything the current ones do an expansion by any stretch of the imagination. I had really high hopes for a third faction of neutrals -ain't gonna happen since they're splitting up Blood Elves. Wouldn't be surprised to see the stinking pandas be the alliance race at this point. And I agree with Jabbs, all of a sudden the bar is lowered on MC/onxy/bwl by raising the level cap. All dungeon balance and possibly PvP balance goes out the window. Granted this helps get those epics faster, but trivializing existing content by giving people another 10 levels to grind strikes me as a cop-out.
Also, by all the rumors I've heard, there's no plans in place -yet- to compensate players for xp post 60. And for those of us who've been there forever, that's a hefty chunk.
Despite the evil I've spilled here, I'll try and withhold judgement till all the details are out, but expansions should be like the diablo II expansion adding new things without taking away from what was there, not just "yay more grinding, a raid, and a new tileset!"

I'm having the same basic response. I'd rather see content and hero classes, where advancement is based off something other than exp. Don't hold your breath on getting compensated for months of lost exp, that's for sure.

I'm happy with what I'm going to get - because I choose to play, therefore if I've made a conscious choice to play, I'm going to make a conscious choice to enjoy myself and not analyze all the potential negatives.
I don't understand all the skepticism.
It IS possible to be skeptical and critical and still have fun at the same time :p
The expansion really isn't what most of us hoped for, but we're still gonna play it nonetheless.

Most of my skepticism comes from past experience of having hobbies I enjoyed wrecked by "improvements." Granted, both those experiences were with Sony games... maybe I should have more faith in Blizzard. For some reason, though, I can't escape from thoughts of EQ's horrible expansions or the game destroying "great ideas" that were implemented in Planetside.

1) Scars of Velious was an Shitty Expandition. IT really seperated casual and hardcore people. Plus gave Casual people the middle finger.
2) Trials of Altantis- Some of the ML designs needed to be shot. (ML 9 and 10). It wasn't Trials of Altantis that was the worst it was Mythic's dumb ass idea of Frontiers of fucking up a good thing. They turned a nice and easy RvR into F U Melees and Midgard.
3) Blood Elves are sissies however they are evil sissies we'll take out after noobs I mean Alliance is dead.
4) If Blizzard doesn't give us casual gamers and semi-casual gamers the middle finger good expandtion (Like SI which it was a good one since it gave Hardcore gamers the middle finger). If it does than you'll see a good thing ruined by stupidity.
5) I want my Frostwolf ride

Yep, and skepticism is the first step on the road to a surprisingly happy ending. I'll stick with skepticism, that way I won't be disappointed...

Blizzard may be trying to appeal to all the Hardcore gamers, as they are bored of MC, Onyxia etc. :( We are more of a casual raiding group of guilds.
Everyone knows you can't please all the people, but this may hurt the casual gamer the most, time will tell I suppose. Hopefully we all can be pleasantly surprised as I'm sure most of us will get the expansion to see whats it all about, even if we don't end up playing much of it. :)
First hand, the expansions in DAoC making that game unplayable for many reasons.
I'm crossing my fingers that Blizz gets an expansion mostly right. ;)

Not after 4 years of EQ, sadly enough. While it's not the same company, I'm a bit short on blind faith these days. :)
I'm sure there will be many cool aspects of it, including new zones and mobs. I'm not so sure that they'll manage to handle the level limit increase in such a way that they don't break a lot of existing content and balance.

Well, Blizzard has never let me down since Warcraft One. Ever. ;)
Well, Blizzard has never let me down since Warcraft One. Ever. ;)
That's exactly how I felt until the "Awesome Changes" that warriors received a week before release, and the subsequent shit-talking of the community moderators and devs to the fans (am I the only one who remembers the condescending jerkoff that is Kalgan?) The once-legendary Blizzard quality became a thing of the past when the original founders and creaters of Warcraft and Diablo packed up and left to form Flagship Studios.
The brilliant originality that gave Blizz it's original spark is no longer with us. If you doubt me, look no further than the rehashed "socketed items" and no new classes.

I don't understand this narrow, black and white attitude that some people have. You can still appreciate and have fun with something even if you don't like every single aspect of it.
Just look at your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/pet goat if you don't believe me :p

If I choose to enjoy something - I won't post or say negative things about it.
I feel like if I choose to enjoy a thing but then I bitch about it, that makes me feel like a hypocrit and like I'm condemning my own decision to enjoy it.
Either I like it and STFU; or I do not like it, won't play it, and feel I am then entitled to bitch about it. ;)
I do not feel like Blizzard has ever let me down, regardless of what they changed in WoW. Either I adapt to those changes and continue to enjoy the game, or I just stop playing if I don't like it.
It's the nature of this type of game: changes will happen. Sometimes they have a positive impact to your gameplay, sometimes they have a negative impact to your gameplay. I cannot in good conscience presume to judge those changes - I have faith in the fact that the developers / game designers made the changes for a good reason.

Although there are things that my wife does that I do not like - I accept her how she is.
And that acceptance means I don't feel good about pointing out the things I don't like about her. ;)

Well hey, I'm going to accept (buy) the expansion even though I may not like some things about it, and since it's not a woman, I have no problem pointing out the things I don't like because I won't get slapped for it :p

I have faith in blizzard because of one thing...no new MMO's to compete with. If it wasn't for that, we'd be getting hero classes that aren't well thought out before they got dropped in, and hero classes will rock the boat one way or another. Besides, ther'll be plenty of time to get this stuff hashed out, since my understanding was that the expansion wouldn't be in place till mid-year '06.
As far as skepticism....well, always right or pleasantly surprised I guess.
