I'm going to be installing WoW on a new system next week, and wanted to transfer my user settings like key bindings and macros. Does anyone know offhand which files those are, so I can just copy them? Thanks!

you can just copy the whole WoW folder over, it doesn't install anything in the registry, so you don't need to do a fresh install (unless you want to.. but why..). :)

Hmm, interesting idea...
At over 6GB size is a minor issue, but I may be able to prune enough old patches and such to get it down to a single DVD. Thanks for the idea!

Want another one?
Copy your screenshots out seperately.. that may be the source of the folder's hugeness.

Actually, I don't take that many. I had fewer than 30, which at around 5mb each isn't that much. Already deleted them. :)

Networky!
I don't know if you have a LAN Myrk, but that's probably the easiest way to move the 6 gig of data.

Ah, but I'll be installing it on my new computer while this one is in transit. Next!
BTW, got it down to 5.25GB or so by deleting all the patch files. GD this is a big game!
EDIT: The Data subdirectory is 5.11GB by itself, it's all the textures and sounds.

Hmmmm
I wonder if my folder is that big.. I never look! ^.^
2nd HD ftw
The settings are all saved in either the WTF or WDB folder.. but really it would be faster to find a way to get that whole folder over because re-installing wow + addons = a full day. Grats on the new computer, btw!! Is it my turn yet? omg..
What happens if you compress it before you burn it to DVD?

I dunno, blank DVDs aren't that expensive so I just split it across 2. I put the big files from the data directory on one, and everything else on the other. We'll see how well it works!

To answer your initial question, all settings are stored in the WTF directory.

Hooray for external Firewire / USB2 drives - a very worthwhile investment IMO! ;)

No, over 2.5 years old. I think the warranty is only a year, maybe 18 months max.

Oh? I may take you up on it. Let me look things over a bit, since with the move I don't really have the inclination to add anything to my workload! ;)

Myrk, I bet you qualify for the educational discount. May or may not be as nice as Ared's :)

I've found that most "educational discounts" only apply to students and K-12 teachers, but this one may be different. For some reason, corporations don't seem to think professors are worth the same kind of treatment as other teachers or our students. :(
