I'm not sure I believe it. Eyonix's post is evasive, and a previous statement by the devs (Blizcon?) indicated they are happy with the factional animosity that those two classes tend to generate.
But hey, could be. If so I'd be tempted to make one of the approximately 3,428,658 Blood Elves that will be emoting their way through the newbie zone - a paladin. =)
They shouldn't be called that - it should be Knight or something, and the Alliance shaman called Witches. Or something.

Well, that'll help us progress in new content while eliminating all the stupid-ass bitching about shamans from the Night Elf n00bs, so I guess it's a good thing.

it will allow content to be harder and geared towards specifically requiring a paladin or shaman in the group or raid. currently it seems to be one or the other on most encounters. so what that means is paladins aren't going to be an option but a neccessity. so who's rolling a paladin?

Draeni Shaman and Blood Elf Pallies.
Thumbs down on this change. And I already didn't care for a "pretty race" being added to the horde...

Oh Sweet ME!!...
I am Soooooooo goin Palli now (tho I'd rather have an Undead, but ya work with what ya got)
altho I DO wanna hit 70 first
Logical solution. They avoid the headache of balancing shamans and paladins in PvP vs PvE scenarios. Seems an admission that making raid totems was too hard or they didn't want to mess with it.

They need to make them different in order for me to support it. My gut reaction was "find a new game." I mean more than just racials, their needs to be major differences in the class IMO. I personally enjoy the cross faction "hate" that comes from them not having a certain class. If this is true Blizzard is taking the easy way out because they cant get raiding shamans right and blance in PVP.

I suspect you're right on why they are doing it. The paladin has made PvE raiding much easier for alliance, while I question whether there has been any real advantage to shamans for group PvP. This is the easy way to fix that.

agreed, but scanning thru the forums for blooo posts, they are taking the approach that now they can concentrate more on making the classes unique without worrying about faction balance.. which has its own +/-'s to it, so I'll sit back & see what happens.. besides.. nothin new comin out that I am THAT fired up about...

NOT how you feel about it now. Plus, I was fresh off reading some of the utter sewage spew posted over in official forums about this. :tongue1:
The official forums are little more than a collection of 13-year olds, trolls, and malcontents who like to see there names posted somewhere.

I think it is kinda silly to allow the Horde to have Pallys and the Alliance to have Shammies. It was kinda cool to have a little diversity between the factions. Now it is more like a level playing field. I don't like it.

I seriously doubt they'll be very different. It isn't like Tauren and Night Elf Druids are fundamentally different, after all. If they intended on adding new classes, they wouldn't call them "paladins" and "shamans" since those already have specific skill sets. That said, I don't really care much either way. We can always adopt a HAWC rule banning paladins... :P

All the flak you would get would not be from members of any raiding guild.

Heh, I'm only somewhat joking. I've really enjoyed the fact that the horde has no paladins, and the release of the Burning Crusade will be a slightly sad day for me because of that addition to our ranks.

We'll see how upset all of you are when your threat is mitigated by 30% and your stats are up 10% across the board.

But if you think of the bonuses that you will be getting for raids... I am more then happy to see them coming in...
Wisdom...
Kings...
Might...
Those will change peoples opinions... Then you add on Shammy totems... OMGWTFHAX!!! :)

It's nothing more than something like racial prejudice - "we fear what we do not understand". ;)
Let's not trivialize each other's opinions, shall we? I dislike paladins, and do not expect that to change when they are coming on our raids since it has nothing to do with any lack of understanding on my part about the class.

From a gameplay perspective I agree. The things they bring are fine.
But from a story line, world flavor, blizzard history perspective I hate it. But then I hate the idea of Elves in the Horde too. I don't really care why Blizz made the decision it just kills a little of the "flavor" of the Warcraft genre for me. But then, as Zeg has told me before, I am a purist. I don't believe in changing my game world history to suit game mechanics or whiners on the forums.
I would be on the forums telling the players, if you don't like the game, go home and play something else. Not very smart from a business perspective but satisfying to the story purist in me. From years of playing RPGs I have gotten to the point where the system is NEVER as important as the story or the characters in it. But, that's just me. :bigok:
PP, I didn't have any issues with your responses. A part of me feels the same way many days. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. I try to let my apathy keep me from taking the game too seriously.

My hatred of pallies goes back to Warcraft II. During LAN parties at Zeg's I was constantly being pestered by a buddy and his roaming Pally healing brigade. The only way to stop them was to hit them with a Goblin Sapper to kill many at once. :saevilw:

Good day.
It's one thing to express a view, it's another way to do it in a way that invalidates the other person's point of view. Saying my views are the equivalent to racism associates them with an attitude that most of the people here probably consider unacceptable and invalid, which implies that my views are invalid. Disagree all you want, but don't treat me with that little respect.

But...it's the story factor that pushed me over the edge from mage TO pally... I mean.. these guys are messed up already.. they are magical-crack-whores that said "screw you" to the alliance after all the suicide runs, then they STOLE THE POWER OF TEH ALMIGHTY ( http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/classcombo.html )
now tell me THAT isn't an OMFGBBQWTF!!11 also, they (blizz) hinted there may be other small diferances, but mechanically they are the same..
ok. How exactly do you steal the power of the almighty? Its the almighty isnt it? wouldnt it be able to tell and say, "no"?
It just doesn't work for me but that's ok since I won't be playing one. If it works for others that's fine too. In 2 years, they will change it to be completely different anyway, right? :dunno:
The almighty has a sense of warped humor and likes letting the "little" people think they are making progress and pulling a fast one on said almighty. For precedent, see all Greek mythology... :)
