So the G15 keyboard kicks ass, but Logitech sucks at getting options for the LCD.

I have come across a few from random websites with stuff for the LCD (which I will post later, stupid work and their stupid firewalls) but I was wondering if any of you use it and have come across any useful add-ons.

oh, who am I kidding, I want pointless, fun ones too.

I use it on my gaming machine, but that machine blew up and I am on my laptop right now.

Something to remember about the G15 is that logitech gives out the SDK for it for free to allow developers to add its abilities into their programs. So for games, or anything else for that matter, to use the LCD... The game/application developers must use the SDK to add it to their products. Logitech gives the ability, it is up to the public to do something with it.

I still say that's Logitech's problem. Yes they give it out but most game developers are not going to spend the time/money to develop a program that only works on one keyboard. It needs to take off. And for that to happen, I think Logitech needs to develop FOR the most popular games, work with the game companies, front the money/time to make these applications, and get to the point where it is demanded by us the gamers, than the software companies will do it themselves. /soapbox

Have any of you used the macro functionality provided by the bank of extra keys on the left side?

I'm interested in what sort of macro'ing you can do with them:

key press, key release, adjustable timing between keystrokes, etc.

Just got mine yesterday...but yes you can have it log key strokes (not sure if the timing is adjustable). And there are also 20 or so pre programed in for WoW... thinkgs like follow.. etc.... Its really sweet. I love the fact that it knows the application that is running (on screen) and has speerate profil;es to load different things. and as you go in and out of applications/games, it keeps with you

I love my Ergodex DX1, but it makes my desktop space and hand placement awkward...

If you've used the HAWC Vent server and followed those instructions, you already have G15 functionality. ;)

The keyboard has a manager down by your task bar (lower right) and you and edit the macro buttons. Within there, you have options for when it records key strokes to watch for the timing or not. So yes Potpie, you can have it watching timing so you can punch a button, wait 5 seconds for a cool down, punch another, and it will do that each time for you :)

Very very nice.
one button, pushed once. totems tOtEmS TOTEMS!!!!

now, it won't record mouse clicks, only key strokes. So assign some of the side bars and such crazy combinations like alt+o and it will drop the off the wall ones.
or even type in script.
In the manager, you can start the macro and tell set the time limit manually instead of waiting for the timing on the recorder. as well as record the pattern you want, than adjust the time for even seconds instead of milli seconds.

so, any programmers out there that want to write a G15 mod to put my chat on the LCD (like vent)?
hours and hours of fun!!

Sounds good - I want to be able to directly edit the delays / timings - and I've read that you can manually insert mouse clicks via the macro editor's interface.

I wouldn't record stuff per se, I'd manually enter it all via the macro editor.

They need to make an ergonomic version, gdit. :)

May get this in a few months when I buy my new system. :dizzy:

Thanks for the info jabber, I didn't know it had WoW functionality, but then it's not ergo, so I never looked at it that closely. :)

I have two G15's and love them: I have 18 macros x 3 banks: I use the first 18 for my hunter, the 2nd 18 for my shaman and the last 18 for mutual stuff. Helps out an ole man like me keep up!

Ok.. I was torn between this & the Saitek Eclipse http://saitekusa.com/usa/prod/eclipse2.htm
but I am leanin towards the G15.. it's gonna hook up mainly to my laptop anyway.. so I just need a good narrow board...also this WOULD be a good time to start learnin to use macros...

OK the keycap lighting on the G15 is WAY better than the Eclipse. Much crisper and nicer all 'round.

And get this, there is native WoW support in patch v1.11 !!

Alright I've got this home on the desktop now.

The backlight / thru the keycap lighting on the G15 kicks the Saitek Eclipse's ASS.

MUCH nicer illuminated characters on every key.

I've not yet played with the G Keys, but fiddled with the LCD a bit - got it down to flipping back and forth between the date/time screen & the CPU/RAM utilization screen.

I also ran Ventrilo and turned on G15 in the Global setting - listened to FG and Mud and watched the LCD - very cool!

So, how many G15 people do we have in HAWC now?

Two G15 units for me; one on both main and backup PC. I have just built a new AMD dual-core box with dual nVidia SLI 256 MB PCI-xpress cards on ASUS motherboard and after several weeks of testing it now rocks for WoW. I frickin' love the Logitech G15 keyboard with both of my systems.
