Introduction
There have been some issues in raids lately where decursing / dispelling assignments are being neglected. This post is to 1) call attention to this topic, 2) explain what that assignment is for those who may not understand, and 3) discuss a mod recommended for raiding relative to this topic.

Let me start this by stating I understand that this assignment is one of the most tedious assignments during a boss fight. However, it is also one of the most critical! So, I’m doing this post to remind all priests (and whoever else gets this assignment from other groups) what is expected of them when their name is called up for duty.
Hereafter I’ll use decursing and dispelling assignments interchangeably. I apologize to classes other than priests who have similar assignments for calling it dispelling.

The Assignment
When given a decursing assignment, especially in MC, your primary job is to keep whatever debuff is relevant to your class off of other raid members. For example, priests are assigned decursive duty on the Luci and Baron fights to dispel the magic debuff. This means your job, and this is absolutely critical, is to remove that debuff as quickly as possible. Most of the time you will be expected to reserve your entire mana pool for this task, especially on boss fights. If you will have assignments in addition to the decursing assignment it will be told to you by your leader. An example of having multiple assignments are on core hound fights, where in the case of a priest, you would be assigned to dispel the magic debuff and assist in keeping your assigned tank alive.

Why is this called decursing? Because there is a mod called Decursive which makes this job a lot easier.

Decursive the Mod
Many of us use a mod called Decursive for dispelling, curing, etc. during a raid. If you do not have it we highly recommend you get it. With a click of a macro decursive will cycle through all the players in the raid looking for debuffs to clear. When it finds one it will clear it. You then click on the macro again to clear the next player’s debuff. If you are interested in knowing more about the mod please feel free to contact the guild leaders (if they don’t use the mod they can put you in touch with someone that does), the healing leaders, the mage leaders, or me.

CT_Raid also has similar functionality, so you may choose to investigate and use this instead. I believe Az uses this functionality, and would probably be willing to help give you direction on its use if asked.

Importance Level
This assignment is so critical because of the damage done by the debuffs. For example, the magic debuff done by the Baron will burn mana with each tick. Not only is it bad to lose the mana, but with each tick of mana gone life is lost as well. So, instead of helping by ignoring the dispelling assignment, you are doing more damage because mana is lost by the debuff and you are using more mana to keep others alive. Immediate removal of debuffs will shorten fights and lead to less deaths. It is CRITICAL that we follow the assignment when called upon.

Next Steps
I believe that the priests can become a lot better with this in the next few MC runs. In fact, we must become better, or we will never be able to help the raid move faster and get more accomplished in a single night. If you have questions about this assignment please ask someone in game or send a private message to any of the leaders before the next MC run. I’ll be happy to help where I can as well.

Great post. I'm not looking forward to the day we shamans have to worry about this as well, probably somewhere in AQ... :(

One observation on the Geddon fight. While I had the magic debuff, Ignite Mana, on me I was getting heals from a couple of different priests (thanks Scrolling Combat Text). This was a little frustrating to me because while it healed the damage already done, the debuff continued to ding me for 400 health and 400 mana with each tick. It seems to me the mana the priests used for healing would have been MUCH better spent dispelling.

The mages, warlock, and druids (didn't hear from any shaman) all commented on how that encounter on Wednesday was the first time we've had any serious mana/health issues and it all revolved around the Ignite Mana debuff. I personally had to burn an Evocation, a mana ruby, and mana potion plus still had to bandage. Normally I don't have to do any of those things on a Geddon fight.

I'm not saying this to rip on the priests. Only to point out the importance of dispelling over healing for that particular encounter.
