I have a little up and coming warlock. I have been doing a little research on specs. Is there a reason a LOT of locks ignore the demon tree? I was under the impersion that the demon was your best friend. If there isn't anything in the demon tree, what keeps your little duddy from getting its arse handed to it?

here is the spec I will be pushing toward at some point after Bagger (my priest) hits 60

Affliction (30 points)

Suppression - Rank 3/5
Improved Corruption - Rank 5/5
Improved Life Tap - Rank 2/2
Improved Life Drain - Rank 5/5
Fel Concentration - Rank 5/5
Grim Reach - Rank 2/2
Nightfall - Rank 2/2
Siphon Life - Rank 1/1
Shadow Mastery - Rank 5/5

Demonology (21 points)

Improved Imp - Rank 3/3
Demonic Embrace - Rank 5/5
Improved Voidwalker - Rank 3/3
Improved Succubus - Rank 3/3
Fel Domination - Rank 1/1
Master Summoner - Rank 2/2
Unholy Power - Rank 3/5
Demonic Sacrifice - Rank 1/1

of course now that I go back and look at my notes, I see that this is just a grinding to 60 build. Again, what is the deal with the demon tree being skipped?

Most HAWC Warlocks are deep into the Demo Tree...... I think that its just Myself, Cyzzyzzkz, and Myrcinstatos that arent.

I've been a SM/DS warlock for awhile now, and I really like it. Ultimate in farming and pretty good for PvP. You also can pick up CoEx for added farming fun! A lot of warlocks that PvP a lot go deep into Demonology, primarily for soul linked vw or MD felhunter buff.

Other builds I've tried were MD/Ruin and the venerable SM/Ruin. Always though that Dark Pact was usless as long as you have improved lifetap.

You can make anything work, for a 60 build it depends mostly on where you spend the bulk of your time.

I had been thinkin of postin' a thread like this.. not sure how I missed it.. but I am currently lookin at MD/Ruin with http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warlocks/talents.html?00000000000000000235030310250105005050205120000100

now.. I am thinking of droppin back in demo a bit to go conflag ..but not sure how handy a Demo/destrct-o-lock would be in instances unless there was a mage shortage...lookin for some opinions here on a good raiding spec I guess =)

You'll find that the warlocks in HAWC include virtually every viable build amongst them, I think. DPS is always good, as long as you can avoid pulling the mobs off the tanks. Beyond that, I can't say anything useful since I don't play a warlock, but I'm sure you'll get some good feedback on this. :)

I like your build...very solid...basically one of the 4 or 5 major builds out there. I personally would rather have the destructive reach for increased range as opposed to the imp firebolt, especially since the majority of time your imp will be phased out anyway...Also I would take the one point you have left and put it in ruin, but I'm sure thats what you were going to do anyway :D

I'm 9/31/11; build is linked in my sig.

I think this build is probably the most flexible end-game, not the best for damage but that can be corrected with gear. Absolute highest survivability of any build, and for MC with the Imp it contains the warlock's only threat reduction ability.

Thaanx.. thats similar to the feedback I had gotten on another forum as well.. besides... the imp firebolt was more usefull in grinding than anything.....but another question.. I had considered going from Imp shadowbolt to cataclysm for the mana red. but not sure if the trade off is worth it.

I had considered going from Imp shadowbolt to cataclysm for the mana red. but not sure if the trade off is worth it.

It depends. If SB is your primary damage spell (MC/endgame or Conflag/NF builds, etc.) I'd stick with ISB. If you use a lot of fire (PvP/Solo), Cataclysm gives more of a return for spells like SP and Immolate when they're fully improved. As is the case with many talents, you are forced to look at the rest of the build to see the whole value.

And, of course, you have the option of taking both. =)
